Cessnock Leagues Club has partnered with Escabags to support people who are fleeing domestic violence.
An Australian registered charity, Escabags provides ‘escape bags’ filled with essential items that may provide comfort to victims of abuse and their children when escaping a dangerous situation.
Escabags was launched by domestic violence survivor Stacy Jane in 2020 and has since distributed more than 12,000 escape bags nationwide, with the aim of ensuring there is at least one stockist in every suburb in Australia.
The charity’s mission is to alleviate the immediate trauma of domestic abuse, whilst connecting victims with resources and agencies to continue their journey towards survivorship.
Cessnock Leagues Club is among 1700 businesses and organisations across Australia that have come on board as Escabags stockists.
Single adult and parent/child bags are available at club reception. The bags also contain a wallet-sized list of local helplines, kindly provided by the Cessnock Domestic and Family Violence Network.
Cessnock Hospitality Group community engagement manager Krystal Sellars (pictured) said the club is pleased to offer this important community service.
“Escabags is aligned with our commitment to welfare and social responsibility, contributing to the safety and support of vulnerable people in our community,” she said.
“It’s a service that we hope we never have to utilise, but sadly we know it is greatly needed.”
