This progress highlights the transformation underway, with the stage set to enhance live entertainment offerings and the alfresco area designed to deliver an open, vibrant dining experience.

Significant progress is being made on site as the first steel frameworks and solid exterior walls are now being erected. Work has commenced on the restaurant roof beams, providing the structural support that will define the new dining space. At the same time, the exterior walls of the restaurant and bistro kitchen are being installed, outlining the footprint of these key areas. This stage of the project represents an exciting transition from groundwork to vertical construction, offering the first tangible sense of how the redeveloped facilities will soon look and function.

Concrete formwork installation has commenced across the development, with frameworks beginning to take shape for the slab areas of the main building and outdoor structures. These moulds are essential in defining the footprint of the redevelopment, ensuring accuracy in both dimensions and levels as preparation builds toward the upcoming slab pours. The commencement of this stage signals the start of one of the most substantial phases of construction.

July 24th 2025
Progress continues on-site with the completion of essential plumbing points, as visible piping now emerges from the ground across the development area. These critical installations pave the way for upcoming connections and ensure the infrastructure is on track to meet operational requirements upon project completion.

Significant progress has been achieved in the car park redevelopment with the erection of a key retaining wall, providing essential entry and exit points. Additional base material has been delivered and evenly spread, further preparing the area for upcoming concrete and asphalt works. Meanwhile, the stormwater drainage system on-site has been successfully completed, ensuring effective water management in the car park area.

Major progress has been made this week with the successful concrete pour for the outdoor cabana areas — a key feature of the club’s new alfresco offering. Simultaneously, concrete footings have been poured for the main building structures, marking a critical step in establishing the framework for the redevelopment.

Underground works are now well underway, with key services including cabling, plumbing, and drainage infrastructure being installed across the site. These essential works form the backbone of the development, ensuring all critical systems are in place before structural elements are poured.
Meanwhile, preparation for the new car park has advanced with the placement of sub-base material. This compacted rubble layer forms the essential foundation for future concreting and asphalting, setting the stage for a durable and well-structured parking area.

June 16th 2025
This week saw the commencement of pre-slab footing works across the site — an important step in preparing for the structural slabs that will form the base of the new development. These early-stage works are critical in ensuring the stability and integrity of the build as we continue progressing through the construction schedule.

Significant progress has been made on-site this week, with excavation works commencing for the stormwater infrastructure — a vital step in preparing the foundations for future development. In addition, works on the upgraded car park are well underway, ensuring improved accessibility and capacity for members and visitors upon completion.

The Cessnock Leagues Club redevelopment project achieved a significant milestone today (Tuesday, May 13) when the official groundbreaking ceremony was held at the club.
Club directors, management and staff were joined by Cessnock mayor Dan Watton, Member for Hunter Dan Repacholi, and representatives of ALTIS Architecture and Club Projects for the ceremony to mark the official start of construction for the project, which will see the club’s footprint doubled with a new restaurant and large alfresco areas among the expansion.
Work is expected to be completed by May 2026.

Exciting news – the development application for our redevelopment project has been approved!
Temporary fencing has been erected around the Wollombi Road properties this week, in readiness for the demolition work to commence on Monday, January 20. This work is expected to be completed mid-February. Construction is expected to start in March.
As we prepare for the demolition of our Wollombi Road properties to make way for the expansion, our former tenants are all settling into their new premises. Cessnock Laundromat has relocated to 1 Edgeworth Street (the former Endeavour Industries site); Gourmet Pizza Cessnock has moved to 85 Vincent Street, Bhutra Spa Thai Massage is now upstairs at 108 Vincent Street, and Dr Andrew Martin is now at 55 Cumberland Street. We would like to thank these businesses for their cooperation and wish them all the best for the future.

Cessnock Hospitality Group is excited to announce its plans for a major redevelopment of Cessnock Leagues Club, which will transform the venue into a modern and vibrant destination for entertainment, dining, and socialising that will meet the needs of our growing community.
Designed by leading architectural firm ALTIS Architecture, the proposed redevelopment will significantly enhance the Club’s services and facilities, including:
- An increase in the Club’s seating capacity from 700 seats to almost 1,400 seats.
- The addition of over 1,700 square metres of outdoor space, which will include landscaped gardens, alfresco dining areas, a new courtyard and an outdoor stage for live music and entertainment.
- A new 150-seat restaurant, plus the relocation and expansion of the existing bistro and café with indoor and outdoor seating for up to 240 diners, as well as the addition of wood-fired pizzas and a gelato bar.
- An expansion to the Club’s main lounge and sports bar.
- A new children’s playground.
- An additional 58 car parking spaces.
Pending DA approval, work is expected to commence by early 2025 and be fully completed around early 2026.
We are excited and proud to embark on this ambitious and visionary project, which will secure the future of Cessnock Leagues Club for many years to come.
