The Cessnock Leagues Club redevelopment project achieved a significant milestone today (Tuesday, May 13) when the official groundbreaking ceremony was held at the club.
Club directors, management and staff were joined by Cessnock mayor Dan Watton, Member for Hunter Dan Repacholi, and representatives of ALTIS Architecture and Club Projects for the ceremony to mark the official start of construction for the project, which will see the club’s footprint doubled with a new restaurant and large alfresco areas among the expansion.
Cessnock Leagues Club president Bruce Wilson OAM said it was a proud moment for the club.
“This is the start of one of the city’s major developments on record, that will cater for the entertainment and employment for many years ahead,” Mr Wilson said.
“According to the Bureau of Statistics, Cessnock is and will be among the fastest-growing communities in the state, and by undertaking this project we will be well positioned to meet the needs of the town going forward.
“Management and the board are confident their decision to undertake the project will position the club as one of the major facilities of its kind in the Hunter Region for the years ahead.”
Designed by leading architectural firm ALTIS Architecture, the proposed redevelopment will significantly enhance the Club’s services and facilities, including:
- An increase in the Club’s seating capacity from 700 seats to almost 1400 seats.
- The addition of over 1700 square metres of outdoor space, which will include landscaped gardens, alfresco dining areas, a new courtyard and an outdoor stage for live music and entertainment.
- A new 150-seat restaurant, plus the relocation and expansion of the existing bistro and café with indoor and outdoor seating for up to 240 diners, as well as the addition of wood-fired pizzas and a gelato bar.
- An expansion to the Club’s main lounge and sports bar.
- A new children’s playground.
- An additional 58 car parking spaces.
Work is expected to be completed by May 2026.
